As well as a strong and representation of young writers – mistress of words Justyna Bargielska vs master of provocation Ignacy Karpowicz. Moreover there’s Jerzy Pilch (doubled in his presence on the nomination list as there are his journal and novel) in duel with “the great” – Wiesław Myśliwski (definitely a possible champion). But the competition is very strong and it’s difficult not to appreciate also Ziemowit Szczerek’s honest and profound depiction of Ukraine vs Poland in his Przyjdzie Mordor i nas zje, czyli tajna historia Słowian. Kurz i krew – a very moving portrait of the city that unfortunately tends to be just a sad dot on the mental map of our Europe. Personally, I have some favourites among nominated books and for sure I will keep my fingers crossed for Małgorzata Rejmer and her reportage book Bukareszt. The twenty books nominated for 2014 Nike prize for literature look very promising.
