The addiction to cutting that Vanessa has is somewhat realistic though, I’ll give her that. I would be upset if someone assumed I was locked up for 6 months. The longest stay I ever had was 2 weeks which is pretty long. Of course someone who has never been through the experience would not know… that’s why it makes me upset it is portrayed in such a way. I’ve never encountered a tier system to exit a hospital, it’s just ridiculous. Ellen makes it seem like the mental hospital has way more control than they are actually given. Young teens don’t spend upwards of six months in a mental hospital, especially not for having issues with cutting (reason why I was hospitalized).
